In Philadelphia and several other cities Smoot running contrivances failed to gain traction as political machines suffered setbacks. Reports described disrupted efforts and unexpected defeats across multiple municipal races.
Late returns show McClellan with a narrow win in New York City and state, with Hearst and Jerome figures strong in Brooklyn and Richmond. Brooklyn plurality for Hearst, while Jerome leads D A race. statewide Democratic majority projected near 80,000 with gains in several counties and a 6 000 state margin over 1904.
Early bulletins place Hearst ahead in Brooklyn with strong showings across Manhattan and the Bronx. By evening, McClellan leads in citywide tallies, while Jerome is noted as elected and Osborne contest remains undecided.
Final returns from Montgomery County show Johnstoun defeating Hermans for the house by about 26 votes with Swanson leading by 120. Charlotte County precincts split favor Swanson, Floyd County the GOP holds a 280 edge, while King William Prince Edward and Brunswick show Democratic and wide leads. Page Rockbridge Buena Vista Northampton totals and other counties indicate broad Democratic gains, with Democrats carrying the full ticket.
Baltimore reports indicate the proposed constitutional suffrage restriction amendment is defeated by large margins. Early tallies from The News and Gen Agnus show Baltimore City counts against the measure ranging from about 15 000 to 18 000, with state totals near 25 000 against. other papers reflect Republican gains and continued doubt as returns arrive.
Ohio report states Dempsey wins Cincinnati mayoralty by about 16 000 while Pattison carries Hamilton county by 12 000 and the state by about 60 000. Cox confirms Pattison leads state and concedes Dempsey victory as the Democratic winner.
Edmune telegraphs President Roosevelt that Philadelphia has redeemed itself with a 75,000 majority and praises honest government. Root is told the masquerade is over and criminals driven from power. Folk receives word that the city swept by about 60,000 votes.
Democratic leaders claim Pattison will win governor and Johnson mayor in Columbus with large margins as 23 Cincinnati precincts yet to report. Republicans dispute results noting heavy turnout and slow counting. Early tallies show Democratic gains in city and county races across Ohio with Canton also reporting a Democratic city win.
Philadelphia crowds report reform tickt leading by large margin with Berry favored for city mayor. Republican leaders claim city votes near even as Plummer expected to win county treasurer by about eight thousand. Pittsburgh Gazette touts Plummer statewide by eighteen to twenty thousand. Fourth district Allegheny ward sixth shows Enterprice National Bank influence, returning Republican by a narrow margin.
Mayor Fagan wins in Jersey City by a 3000 to 6000 edge and leads his ticket. In Burlington county the Entire Republican slate prevails by at least 1000. Newark and Washington counties back Johnson Cornish for state senate by 500. Trenton results show Senate Republicans 17 Democrats 4. House Republicans 45 Democrats 15. Frederick W. Grichtel captures Trenton mayoralty by about 1200.
Indications at 10 p m show Gen Elisha Dyer likely elected mayor of Providence first Republican mayor in 15 years. Newport Mayor Boyle defeated by Cottrell by about 100 votes. Utter, Republican, leads Garvin in Providence and is re elected governor by roughly 8 000. Higgie s candidate in Newport also appears re elected.
The Associated Press reports 70 of 354 cities and towns counted with Boston excluded. Curtin Guild, Republican, leads the governor race with a likely margin near 35,000 in the Boston Globe tally.
In Massachusetts the race is described with Whitney Democrat for governor and Draper Republican ahead of Bartlett. Early returns show Whitney leading by about 24000, while the off year election yields a strong Republican sweep with control of both legislative branches.
Complete returns from Omaha and Douglas county show Latten Republican 9073 votes, Hashings Democrat 5636, Socialist 3922. The World-Herald estimates the Republicans carry the state by about 19000.
In Bridgeport Connecticut the Republicans claim a 500 vote majority for Republican Rey nolde over Democrat Malyehill in the mayoral contest Ansonia Connecticut reports Republicans sweep the ticket Ferrell by 289 over Charters for mayor
Return from 122 precincts on 128 gives Schmitz union labor candidate 70 380 votes, a majority of 13 084 over Partridge Fusion candidate. Indications are that the entire union labor ticket has been elected.
In Indianapolis 200 of 246 precincts counted give Republican candidate Bookwalker a 1280 vote plurality over Democrat Halmyan. Results reflect early tallies with final results pending.
In Salt Lake City Utah Amer ican party managers assert the election of Ezra Thompson an anti Mormon candidate for mayor.
Washington reports election results from Cincinnati and Ohio showing Cox defeated by Independents and Democrats. Philadelphia appears to have toppled the machine amid nearly 500 arrests for interfering with the election. Bartlet in Massachusetts narrowly leads. McClellan wins in New York City. Jerome removed as District Attorney. Virginia and Maryland shift to Democratic and oppose the constitutional disenfranchisement amendment.
Returns show Walter Dickinson elected to the state senate over Democrat W R Graham. Graham led his ticket at Pocahontas and other towns, while Dickinson secured the seat amid the late returns. A stray line about a 5 and 10 cent store advertising Christmas novelties appears in the text.

In Middlesboro Kentucky a murder indictment and a feud explode into armed clash as Frank Ball leading about fifty supporters battles Kentucky State Guard amid a siege on Cumberland Mountain. Two soldiers are missing and two Ball followers killed as outlaws shelter near the summit and threaten further bloodshed.
In Chicago and Cook County the Republican slate won all but one seat. The sole Democrat elected was W-b from the sanitary district, marking a decisive GOP victory in statewide and local races.
