McDowell County approves plan for new and repurposed schools
The McDowell County Board of Education adopted a 10 year school improvement plan awaiting state approval. It includes 38 million dollars in federal funds for new construction in Big Creek and a new Iaeger High School. The plan proposes closing Jaeger and Panther elementary schools and relocating Switchback Elementary near Northfork football field. It also envisions a new middle school serving Welch Gary and Northfork and relocating Switchback Elementary. The United Way of the Virginias reports 185611.87 raised toward its 1999 goal of 474100.
