Yong Soon Bai, a 20 year old Korean student, hid from Red soldiers in Seoul for three months to avoid conscription. After U S troops occupied Seoul he came to Blacksburg to study agronomy at Virginia Tech with a $300 scholarship and praise from Dr J D Pendleton. He hopes to earn a Ph D and return to Korea to teach, while adjusting to American life and English.

Tragedy in West Virginia Home Fire Claims 18 Year Old
Patricia Ann Wallace, 18, burned to death in a Wayne County house fire while two younger sisters watched outside. Their mother Dora Wallace worked in Huntington. Patricia, ill since birth, required assistance to move. Acting Coroner ruled death accidental due to burns and suffocation. State Police Corporal J R Hogg reported the details.

George Stringfellow a 24 year old Concord College student was listed in fair condition at Bluefield Sanitarium after an October 21 auto accident. He suffered a brain contusion when his car left the Bluefield Princeton road near the railroad underpass around 1130 PM. Hospital attendants said he was on a normal diet and could sit up briefly twice yesterday as he recovers.

Logan Man Killed When Truck Strikes Bridge
A panel truck struck a bridge across Island Creek two miles north of Logan and overturned. Manny Bento, 32, of Logan, died after the vehicle caught fire. Driver Fleming Gordon, 35, of Charleston, and passenger Anne Stanley, 41, of Logan, escaped. Gordon jailed on drunk driving and manslaughter charges. Bento, a Gordon employee, was native of Portugal. Accident on US 119 in the Cherry Tree area of Logan County.
