Virginia Democrats chalked up sweeping victories in two senate and all nine house contests in marked contrast to a national Republican landslide which won control of congress. The solidly Democratic state delegation will participate in a congress with far reaching changes in officials and committees as a result of yesterday's general election. Senator Harry Flood Byrd won a third full term and A Willis Robertson the short term in the senate by over two to one. Rep John W Flannagan won by a comparatively close margin over H Sutherland in the ninth. Returns show Byrd 150,448 to 75,619 for Parsons. Robertson 164,562 to 71,030 for Woods. Flannagan 19,964 to 16,892 for Sutherland and 2,080 for Goodpasture. Minor party candidates trailed. Byrd and Robertson led in most districts. some areas showed Robertson trailing Woods or Byrd trailing in others. Windows should be safely screened or barred to prevent children from falling through.

Arthur Peery 63 of 908 Virginia avenue Bluefield Va died suddenly Tuesday night while en route to a movie. Funeral services set for 2 30 pm at First Methodist Church Bluefield with interment at Maple Hill Cemetery. Born March 28 1883 in Burkes Garden he was a son of John G and Mary Groseclose Peery. He married Maggie J McClelland in 1902 and was a section foreman for the N and W railroad for 34 years. He was a member of First Methodist and its Men’s Bible class.

Murder charge against Rumley dismissed in Va. shooting case
A murder charge against R. D. Rumley of Thompson's Valley Va. was dismissed after a trial justice found lack of probable cause. The fatal shooting of L. Coal Miners Resume Operations in Williamson Field
The Williamson Operators association announced that mines in the Williamson field on the Kentucky and West Virginia sides of Tug River resumed operations today, with all but 12 mines operating and four remaining closed since election day. Miners began a walkout last Friday as wage talks with the government opened in Washington, though Charles Kiser of United Mines Workers said the government contract remains in effect and union members are expected back on the job. He expects production to resume.
