Washington reports indicate a near certainty of a Russia Japan alliance ending the Far East crisis. Japan would dominate Korea while Russia governs Manchuria, leaving China and the United States as principal losers as talks on reoccupation and territorial division proceed.
The Grand Lodge I O O F session opens Tuesday November 17 in Wheeling with encampment that day and the Grand Lodge session the next. About 235 delegates plus visitors are expected. An Odd Fellow home may be proposed. Notable speakers include Congressman A G Dayton and Hon George C Sturgiss. Delegates will tour the penitentiary and industrial Wheeling.

He notes many attendees oppose him, calls the push desperate, and says he would present his record to Ohio County voters as a business leader and Republican, ready to compare with Senator Scott and others involved.

In Wheeling on November 5 the state labor commissioner Isaac V. Barton said for the first time since the free employment bureau opened there is not a single place open to applicants. He noted firms have all the workers they need, with forty applicants needing work and no jobs to offer. He expects the trend to reverse and remains confident in national prosperity.
Topeka Kansas November 5 Professor G B Penny of Washburn College told students that singing gospel hymns will be discontinued because the music is immoral He cited twenty five tunes including six waltz two step and seventeen polkas as objectionable March tunes are acceptable No more singing until new books are provided

Bristol Tenn November 5 Further evidence shows Lillian Shaw the young mulatto woman found dead in Johnson county mountains was murdered. Two men tied her corpse to a rail and carried it three miles to a secluded spot where it was burned after a pole was attached to the rail.
Edward L. Wentz has been missing for over three weeks in the mountains. The search continues with no clue to his whereabouts. J F Bullitt reports no developments and notes ransom talks were alleged but remain unconfirmed.
New York November 5. A sensational report currents that Robert Goelet Jr brother of Miss May Goelet who will wed the Duke of Roxburghe next week will marry Ellen Anderson a West Fifty first street shop girl daughter of a chop house keeper. He is worth 12 000 000 dollars.
Streator Illinois reports Rev Byron Alden celebrated his ninety seventh birthday making him the world’s oldest Methodist minister eight months older than Rev Joseph Ayres of Sidney Ohio. Alden born in Vermont November 5 1806 remained a vigorous pulpit preacher and once spoke at the Streator Methodist conference.
Sidney B. Webb, a longtime swindler who toured Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland and North Carolina collecting one dollar from black women as pensions, was found guilty in U S District Court in Norfolk and faces penitentiary time. A witness recalled Webb returning to demand a dollar for express postage on pension funds sent to her. Many similar tales were told in court.
Ottawa reports reveal severe demoralization of tribes in the Lesser Slave Lake region due to drink. Morality and hunting fitness decline as residents rely on spirits, with access through labeled essences and flavored alcohol substitutes. Missionaries urge prohibition of all such essences while missionaries urge action by the Hudson Bay Company.
