New York reports a nationwide electoral tally as Harding leads with 275 votes in the electoral college from states including Connecticut and New York while Cox holds 136 votes. Returns remain incomplete with several states uncertain. Harding plans can travel and study canal tolls in the coming weeks.
New York Nov 2 The early returns show a growing Harding edge with Cox and Democratic leaders conceding the election. Western returns hint at a possible counter to the eastern landslide as the nation faces the league of nations issue and Senate control questions linger.
Dayton, Ohio November 2 The Dayton Daily News owned by Governor Cox went to press with an extra conceding Senator Harding's election. Cox received returns at the News office but said he would make no statement tonight. The paper ran "Republican landslide, Harding wins" as the headline.
Warren G. Harding, amid early returns showing a clear path to the presidency, says he is pleased but not exultant. He emphasizes a national call to responsibility, praying to be able to meet America and the world’s expectations, and notes plans for a rest trip to Texas and the Panama Canal Zone before returning to Marion in December.
New York Nov 2 George White chairman of the Democratic national committee conceded election of Senator Harding at 11 o clock tonight. He said the league of nations dispute led to confusion and that the nation must accept the result. White sent congratulatory telegrams to Senator Harding Governor Coolidge and Will Hays and urged unity.
Marion Ohio November 2 Harry M Daugherty a Republican campaign adviser said at 9 o clock central time that Harding carried every northern state and the border states Maryland West Virginia Kentucky Missouri and probably Oklahoma in a late night declaration to supporters
Early statewide returns show Warren G. Harding ahead of John Cox by more than three to one. In Pennsylvania 641 of 7219 districts reported, Harding 124,291 Cox 38,299, including 261 Philadelphia districts. Senator Boles Penrose led Democrat John Farrell for re election with 57,355 to 16,679.
Returns from several New York cities report early results for president. Poughkeepsie lists Harding 7,184 and Cox 3,396 while Troy records Harding 15,862 and Cox 14,530. Hornell, Binghamton, Olean, Auburn, and Niagara Falls show Cox leads in some cities and Harding in others with mixed totals.
Early returns from thirty precincts statewide show the amendment favored. Voters tally 640 for adoption to 137 against, with substantial lead reported as results came in from San Francisco and other precincts.
At midnight with 578 of 1668 precincts reporting West Virginia showed Cox 60 416 and Harding 83 363 for president. If this ratio holds Harding would lead by 72 852. Gubernatorial results showed Koontz 60 407 and Montgomery 23 479. Congressional returns across districts favored Republicans in several early counts.
Early returns from New York show Harding widening the national lead with anticipated New York plurality around one million. Boston and Maine report large Harding margins while Pennsylvania and Vermont also favor Harding. Some opposition incumbents and league opponents appear set for tough losses as western states near closing.
Harding won his home Marion Ohio precinct by 373 votes to 74 for Cox. Four years earlier the precinct had similar support patterns for the senator.
The Bluefield and Mercer county Republican organization mobilized from dawn to close, delivering large wins. Precinct results show Harding leading, followed by Cox, Goodykoontz, Morgan and others, with Republicans carrying key offices and district tickets in a decisive election.
