Fourteen additional non union men brought from Kansas City by the Southern Pacific refused to work after union pickets questioned them. Seven non union men quit after a few days as the strike by clerks at Southern Pacific gains momentum and reports encouragement along the line.
Pacific at Grena resigned his posi tion today out of sympathy for idle clerks. The union claims there is little movement of sugar from the interior. As season peaks for mills and refineries, reports on the sugar exchange cite congested conditions with operators and manufacturers complaining. Southern Pacific likely to concede soon.
Pittsburg police report James A. McMillan aged sixty five a Western Pennsylvania sales agent for the Automatic Heating Company of New York was found murdered in a vacant lot. The body showed a crushed head indicating a club blow and robbery appears the motive with his watch missing.
Salem Indiana November 2 Charles B Williams acting cashier of the Citizens Bank killed himself with a shotgun in the bank vault. Authorities say temporary insanity due to business troubles caused the act. Bank accounts reported as intact.
In Philadelphia a thirteen year old girl, Jennie Donato, and her infant brother in her arms were struck by a trolley car and dragged sixty feet before the vehicle was stopped. Both children died at the scene. The father is described as a prominent Italian citizen.
A Japanese captain of engineers was caught today while sketching fortifications on the island of Manila. He was in disguise and will be deported immediately.
A massive blast at the Cincinnati and Southern railroad shop yard in Chattanooga Tennessee killed one man and fatally injured another. Several workers were injured and it is feared others may be buried in the wreckage as the storehouse and nearby buildings were destroyed. The cause is unknown with dynamite rumored to be involved.
Mayor Duggan announced a proclamation inviting Worcester citizens to join in a tribute to the memory of Congressman Rockwood Hoar and to suspend business. The funeral is set for Monday and the governor will issue a precept for electing a successor to Hoar’s unexpired term.

New York detectives report Giuseppe Morello stabbed to death with a poisoned needle in front of 114 Mulberry St. Ferdinando Russo, 23, of 116 Mulberry St., is charged with the murder after a quarrel over a girl. Detective Frank Bonano witnessed the fight and halted Russo.
