Fatal vehicle strike near Bluefield on U S Route 19 460
Virginia State Police and local rescue crews responded to a fatal pedestrian collision near the Fast Stop on U S Route 19 460 west of Bluefield Virginia at about 630 p m Sunday. The victim was identified as a male pedestrian and the scene was secured while an accident reconstruction team was pending. No other details were released.

Mercer County Airport expands runway extensions to lure carriers
Mercer County Airport Authority reports 300 foot extensions on each side of the runway nearly complete. The safety zones use loose earth to halt overshooting aircraft, with new lighting to guide pilots. Renovations include new terminal windows, heating and cooling, and exterior insulation. If business returns, the facility could host a commercial air carrier again.
