The United Way of Greater Bluefield celebrates loyal supporters at a weekly breakfast. Initial Gifts Division passes $29,071, with $300 added this week and Bluefield supply partners named for yearlong backing. Central Junior High tops schools with a $300 pledge. several businesses join new Gold and Silver Citizenship Award groups. Next division meeting is November 15.

Limbless Painter Dies In Princeton
Marvin Marshall Kessinger 48 of 407 Wiley Street Princeton died in a Princeton hospital after a short illness. Born without limbs he painted with a brush held in his teeth and designed all art for Princeton Community Hospital when built in 1970. He donated many works to churches organizations and the hospital. Survived by one sister Ruby Sentman of Spanishburg two brothers preceded in death. Services Friday at 2 pm at George W Seaver Chapel with Salvation Army captain Rosy Foster and Rev George Kelly. Interment Resthaven Park Cemetery. Pallbearers listed. Contributions to Crippled Children's Society museul via George W Seaver Mortuary.

Local Man Guilty Of Robbery In Mercer County
A Mercer County Circuit Court juryConvicted Wayne Scott of unarmed robbery after a one day trial. The jury deliberated about 20 minutes. Scott joined in a joint indictment with Paul Lee who previously was convicted. The victim Ivory B Taylor testified he was jumped from behind and robbed of 603 dollars. Other state witnesses included Tommy Glenn Joyce Ann Allen and retired detective Ed Belcher. Judge William O Bivens Jr presided with Bruce Ambrose as prosecutor and Charess Cunningham as defense attorney.

Driver Charged After Crash Near State Route 20
Mercer County State Police report a two vehicle crash on Athens Road near State Route 20. Raymond Douglas Gill, 22, of Hinton, in a 1974 Chevrolet pickup, pulled from Route 7 and was struck by Gilberto Catron in a 1971 Pontiac Ventura. Catron faced wreckless driving charges after allegedly speeding on the wrong side of the road and skidding into Gill.
