Giles High school of Pearisburg Virginia defeated Galax High 34 to 6 on Friday night in Pearisburg. Giles led 7 0 at halftime and expanded with three touchdowns in the fourth quarter to clinch the win. Giles piled up 322 rushing yards and 11 first downs while Galax managed 55 rushing yards and 76 passing with eight first downs.
The West Virginia College Young Republicans hold a one day state convention in Morgantown to elect new officers. Outgoing president Edward H. Shaw a Concord College student presides over the session.

Huntington's Tom Harris booted a 22 yard field goal in the final seconds to lift the Pony Express 16 14 over the Mountain Lions. Charleston's loss jeopardizes a playoff spot as rain forced many games to be postponed and other WV high school results include Buckhannon Upshur over Clarksburg Victory 28 20 and Weirton Red Riders 21 13 over Steubenville Catholic.
In New York Madison Square Garden on Friday night Juan Rivero 314-1 underdog from Buenos Aires defeated Florentino Fernandez by unanimous decision after ten rounds. A disputed eighth round knockdown appeared decisive as Fernandez absorbed heavy punches and returned with body shots.
November college football scene centers on Rose Bowl hopes for USC and Washington in Seattle while Texas pursues Cotton Bowl with SMU. Illinois, Ohio State, Michigan State lead the Big Ten, LSU and Mississippi clash in the SEC, and Army-Air Force, Princeton, Bowling Green also in spotlight.
