Washington reports a September trade deficit of 15.5 billion, an all-time record, while the leading indicator rose only 0.1 percent and factory orders fell 0.6 percent. Imports climbed to 33.3 billion, driven by a 54.8 percent jump in Japanese car shipments and a 17.6 percent rise in oil imports.
