Guardsman survivor credits rescue effort and faith
The article profiles Guardsman Houck who survived a severe 1998 accident during a storm that halted power and communications. After 60 days in Charleston Area Medical Center and a total of 100 hospital days, he returned to duty in spring 2000, aided by blood donations from fellow soldiers and support from General Tackett, Barnett, and Col. Swope. He credits prayer and community help as pivotal to his recovery and ongoing recovery work with the National Guard in Bluefield and Mullens connections.
