The nation faces renewed inflation jitters as May data show higher than expected April price rises. Economists note the impact on stocks, bonds, and interest rates while gold remains a hedge. The question remains whether everyday items like groceries and services feel the squeeze.

At 7 30 p m the Mercer County Democrat Club meets at the Princeton courthouse with Auditor Glen B Gainer III as keynote.

The United Mine Workers expanded a two week old strike into Pennsylvania calling it a monumental miscalculation. Spokesman Tom Hoffman warned further walkouts would hurt the industry as about 6,200 miners in Indiana Illinois Pennsylvania and West Virginia participate in the selective strike against Bituminous Coal Operators Association. UMW President Richard Trumka to visit striking miners in Monongalia County with a rally at Osage Community Center and tours of two CONSOL mines near Morgantown.
Bluefield residents press Alternative 4 for replace Easley Bridge linking Maple Street Highland Avenue to U S 52 near the north end of the current span. Officials say four year build, 10.9 million cost, vs eight point five million for Alternative 1.
