Escape Fire Halts Matinee At East Liverpool Theater
About 300 people fled the American theater in East Liverpool Ohio as flames burst from under the proscenium arch during a matinee. Manager James Fisher stopped the show after smoke was detected and patrons evacuated calmly through rear doors. Firefighters from six departments battled the blaze. Richard Emmerling sustained minor burns while aiding responders. The three story building suffered heavy damage and the cause was not immediately known.

Charleston Foundry Destroyed by Blaze in West Virginia
A Charleston Foundry building owned by C. W. Wheeler and H. H. Bell burned early today in a $100,000 fire that lasted about an hour despite heavy rain. No injuries were reported though oil drums exploded. the one story 100 by 150 to 1600 building housed small home stoves and iron castings. Fire Chief Frank Workman said the fire, reported at 2 a.m. by a passing taxi driver, left only a typewriter, an adding machine, and some company records as salvaged items. the plant was not insured.
