Capito stays optimistic on bipartite infrastructure talks
Senator Shelley Moore Capito said in a virtual briefing negotiations with the White House on a bipartisan infrastructure plan continue with aims to reach some agreement by the end of next week. She noted the need to narrow the definition of core physical infrastructure and that the GOP delegation will drive the cost once a definition is agreed. The GOP has offered a $568 billion counter to Biden’s $2.25 trillion proposal.

West Virginia opens online registration for $100 gift cards and bonds
Gov. Jim Justice announced during a pandemic briefing that West Virginia residents aged 16 to 35 who are fully vaccinated can register online to receive a $100 gift card or a $100 savings bond. The program is retroactive to those already fully vaccinated. About 130,000 in the group have at least one dose. The state plans to process cards soon and expand to ages 12 to 15.

Virginia State Police blitz nets numerous commercial vehicle violations
A three day Southwest Virginia Blitz operation by the Virginia State Police Motor Carrier Safety Unit in Buchanan Tazewell Bland and other counties inspected 341 commercial vehicles including 68 hazardous materials checks. The effort yielded 603 equipment and driver violations 49 vehicles placed out of service and 19 drivers placed out of service with inspections focused on Route 11 Route 220 Alternate Route 460 and Interstates 77 and 81.
