The Bluefield Public Housing Authority formally dedicated the 142 unit project and renamed it Tiffany Manor in memory of the late Rev. Clarence W. Tiffany, the authority’s charter member. Local officials and Tiffany family members attended the ceremony at the community building.

Hershey Dies In Sleep At 83 In Indiana
Hershey, a four star general who directed the draft for 14.5 million Americans in three wars, died in a motel near his Indiana birthplace at age 83. He led the Selective Service System for nearly 30 years and was buried at Arlington after autopsy.

Vice President Mondale and South African Prime Minister Vorster ended two days of talks in Vienna with a limited agreement on South Africa's race policies. Mondale said they agreed on black majority rule in South West Africa Namibia and Rhodesia, but Vorster remained committed to apartheid. Bluefield College to Award First Bachelor Degrees
Bluefield College prepares for its first bachelor degree conferrals during Saturday 10 a.m. ceremonies on campus. Twenty BA and fourteen BS degrees will be awarded along with sixty three associate diplomas as alumni from 1923 to 1927 are recognized. Dr. Richard M. Stephenson is guest speaker. The college earned Virginia accreditation for four year programs, with a regional review pending in December.
