Prison riot at Mack Alford Correctional Center in Stringtown
Inmates at the overcrowded Mack Alford Correctional Center in Stringtown Oklahoma seized eight guards from ten prisoners and held three hostage after a late Friday uprising that gutted one dormitory and damaged two others. One guard and one inmate were injured. Five hostages were released by Saturday, with others in good condition. The inmates, armed with crude knives, demanded negotiators and safety assurances while surrounding the facility with state police and fire units. Governor Bellmon declined to call in the National Guard.
