Welch Protest Over Election Officials Sparks City Debate
In Welch West Virginia a large Democratic delegation confronted the city council over the June 6 municipal election officers. Harry J. Capehart Jr. petitioned to substitute a Democratic list for some names, but Clerk Hobart E. Payne said no list was filed on time. The council will consider the issue at a meeting next Tuesday after the Republican city convention on May 12.

Concert Directors Meet Today
The board of the Community Concert association will hold a special meeting this afternoon at 4 o'clock in the see room of the West Virginian ate. Miss Helen Sue Spangler, secretary, announced the meeting is called to consider a possible change in the concert schedule announced recently for next season. Every member of the board is urged to attend. The local association's membership drive for the coming concert recently was concluded considerably short of its goal.

Charles Herman French a Virginian Railway employee from Princeton died Monday night in a Phoenix hospital after months of illness. He was assistant car foreman at Virginian shops, lived on Bluefield Avenue, Princeton, and belonged to multiple Masonic and Prince ton orders. Survived by his widow Lillian Hill and seven sisters and a brother, his body will arrive in Princeton Friday night for Memorial funeral directory arrangements. Funeral plans are incomplete.

Mayor L E Rogers said he will formally request census data from the census bureau. Hobart Yerkey said the count for McDowell county and Welch should be released by next week once tabulation is finished. Under bureau rules, communities under 100 require a city official request. Enumeration in Welch and McDowell County is complete except for a few late forms.
