A well dressed man entered a Bluefield store and asked for an up to date hat. The obliging clerk showed several styles. After trying on many, the man revealed the hat was his old Knox bought at The Metropolitan.

A mass convention of Republican voters in Mercer County is called for May 16 1908 at 11:00 A M in Bluefield to select 24 delegates for the state nominating convention in Charleston and to nominate county officers including Clerk of the County Court Circuit Court Judge two House members County Commissioner Prosecuting Attorney Sheriff Assessor and County Surveyor. Delegates will be chosen from each magisterial district based on Roosevelt votes from 1904.

The Roanoke Times reports Howe's London circus arrived in Roanoke and offered two afternoon and evening performances praised as the best in years. Clowns, ladies, cavaliers, trapezists, Japanese acts, trained animals, and music delighted the crowd with no dull moments.

N. and W. engineer A. W. Jenkins suffered a very serious accident near Kermit West Virginia when a heavy timber from a box car on eastbound train No 76 struck his head. He was unconscious for a time and carried to Portsmouth on No 3 after regaining some consciousness.
