Welch Faces Flood Aftermath and Highway Repairs Continue
In McDowell County the July flood left the county drenched in water with Welch’s City Hall swamped and first floor fixtures ruined. West Virginia officials, led by Highway Commissioner Fred Vankirk, promised extended road work to reach stranded residents as crews from multiple districts joined efforts. Welch Mayor Martha Moore and Northfork Mayor Nick Mason toured the damage while Welch Librarian Donna Morgan reported loss of children and history books, noting donated computers were destroyed and fundraising plans are set to restore the library.
