Morgantown AP reports 3,000 gathered on West Virginia University campus as State Police, armed with pistols and shotguns, dispersed demonstrators with teargas. Gov Moore ordered troopers in amid rising tensions after Kent State killings, with around 500 protesters at peak and no injuries reported.
President Nixon moved to mend campus relations amid rising dissent in his administration and among advisers. He vowed to restrain hostile comments about students, summoned state governors for a meeting, and ordered speech material for a Friday news conference. Meanwhile aides resign and Harvard professors plan a public break over Southeast Asia policy.
Across the nation colleges faced strikes, fires, and vandalism amid antiwar protests following Kent State killings. National Guardsmen dispersed crowds at Illinois and Kentucky campuses, while fires and arson hit ROTC buildings at Nevada Reno and Ohio Athens. In Alabama Tuscaloosa riot police used tear gas as campuses including San Francisco and Colorado Springs saw fire damage.
Washington says American troops penetrated the most sophisticated base complex yet found in six days of fighting against Cambodian sanctuary networks. Initial reports describe 400 to 500 huts, radio antennas, a large bunker, and a huge cache of equipment in a site near the COSVN area along the Cambodian South Vietnam frontier. no confirmation of exact location or casualties was provided.

Defense Department announced Wednesday that Sergeant Jimmy A Hill of Wise Virginia was killed in action in Vietnam. He is survived by his widow Lora J Hill.
