County considers new taxes to cover budget shortfall
A county board hearing explored a 20 percent tax on the first $50 of electric bills and 2 percent thereafter plus a public referendum on a food tax. Other proposals include a higher transient occupancy tax and raising the county decal from 2 to 10 dollars to address a roughly 3.5 million shortfall. A public hearing on the operating budget is planned for 7 p.m. with a tentative June date for the occupancy tax vote.
