At 10 o clock on Friday May 9 Mrs Nancy Miller and a physician will give free smallpox and diphtheria immunizations to all children enrolling in the first trade at Knob School next September. This protection is required by law and parents of first time entrants are urged to bring their children.
In Princeton yesterday the jury in W. D. Mills charged with assault and battery could not reach a verdict and was discharged. Court reports show seven favoring a mistrial and five for conviction. Meanwhile Garnet Viola Starling received ninety days for a separate matter with no costs or credit. Other cases saw no-entered orders, a cruelty to dumb animal fine of twenty-five pounds, and bond actions. The Garner McDaniel Furniture Co. announced a Thorn Street store rental from Mrs. A. B. R. Harris and plans to open a furniture shop soon.
Rose Jewelry Company announces a third annual seniors dance in Mercer County to honor graduates. The 1947 event moves from the West Virginian Hotel Bluefield to Elk's Ballroom Princeton on Saturday May 17 at nine o'clock with Dennis Barton and his orchestra performing and refreshments provided. Invitations will be sent to all seniors with each graduate allowed a guest.
A Princeton union meeting of city churches is planned tonight at 8 at First Methodist to observe National Music Week. The program features the Genoa High School choir from Bluefield performing sacred and semi classical music, sponsored by the Princeton Music Club. Also note reservations closing for the Junior Woman's Club annual banquet May 15 at Leo's in Bluefield. interested attendees should send fees to Gordon Ball.
City council held a busy session approving a liquor sales tax of one cent per fifty cents with July 1 effective. Republican officers nominated for various wards and precincts. Democratic picks to be finalized May 18. Building permits issued. issues over First Street closure, hydrant needs, sewer line request, and parking lot proposal discussed.
Street committee ordered cleaning of a street. Mrs West and Mrs Harvey objected to a coal house on Mrs Annie M Martin property, council to view premises before the next meeting. Council debates night bus continuation to eleven. Fred Bushee complains of dogs on Mercer street and Clyde Garver about cows on Bluefield avenue.
Princeton Youth Inc met at the Memorial building with Dewey J. Bailey in the chair Quentin Barnette was re-employed as full time summer playground director and playgrounds with supervisors at Mercer Thorne and Knob schools will be operated. The April report shows 1849 boys and girls attended gymnasium periods and the Memorial building dance. The winter program closed April 18 and the summer program opens June 2.
April police report shows 116 arrests and fines totaling 841.80. Offenses include 78 intoxication, 5 driving after license revoked, 2 justice warrants, 1 breaking and entering, 1 passing worthless check, 1 fighting, 1 window peeping, 1 speeding, and 2 parking meter violations.
Clyde Bourne of 425 Hale Avenue Princeton reported a maroon 1942 Butch station wagon stolen between 11 p.m. Monday and 4 a.m. yesterday. Bourne urged anyone with information to contact the state police at Princeton or himself.

Royal theater screens Guest In The House with Anne Baxter and Ralph Bellamy. Aline Me Mahon and Ruth Warrick in supporting roles.
Mr and Mrs George McConnell and James McConnell from Straley Avenue spent last Sunday visiting their daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs Kenneth Riley in Gary. Mrs RB B Thompson has returned home at 713 Bluefield Avenue from Memorial hospital where she is recuperating from an operation and is getting along nicely.
Daniel Lee Bolton 14 died at 3:30 Tuesday morning at Memorial Hospital from peritonitis. He was son of Mr. and Mrs. John L. Bolton of Princeton and brother of Mary Yvonne Virginia Joyce and James R. Bolton. He was a member of Stinson Methodist Church. Body at Fredeking Seaver Funeral Service chapel pending funeral plans. The Princeton Music duo will hold a monthly meeting Thursday night at 1 o'clock in Memorial building to elect officers.
After the union meeting tonight at First Methodist Church the adult choir of the Presbyterian Church will hold rehearsal.
