Manila May 6 Colonel Arquiello chief of staff to General Luna and envoy for peace said our troops are whipped and Aguinaldo is discouraged. Leaders seek fair treatment and a brief armistice to enable surrender through Congress, arguing Americans distrust our honesty.
General Lawton's column pushes 2.5 miles north of Baliwag as two wounded men from Minnesota and one Oregonian are evacuated to Manila. Rebels retreat from Maasin where 2000 were entrenched and many corpses lie in the river along with rifles and arms recovered. MacArthur's division rests at San Fernando conducting reconnaissance.
