Bluefield closes a successful Elks carnival with Queen Maud Kingsbury crowned in a grand procession. The crown, a $3000 jeweled piece by Mebane & Sons, wowed crowds with diamonds and pearls set in a velvet frame. Guards and outriders led the royal march as vendors depart for Point Pleasant.
The rival car feature included a baby show at Pedigo's Stone where Louise Lucas of Graham Virginia won five dollars in Uncle Sam’s gold. Judges were Mrs. Morris Walker Bramwell Mrs. Umboltz and Mrs. Edmonds of the city. About a dozen babies will receive engraved mugs.
The range weighing 3683 4 lbs was won by Mr B O Cooper from the city with a guess of 36713 16 lbs. H M McCurdy of Portsmouth Ohio placed second with 3671016 lbs and Mrs J H Fare was third with 367916 lbs. There were 1515 guesses total, from 145 to 8340 lbs. The range is a beauty and one many would like to win.
