Roanoke Conference Sees Large Visitor Attendance
About seventy five delegates are expected in Bluefield for the Roanoke Conference of the Woman's Missionary Society of the Virginia Synodical Lutheran Church. The meeting opens Tuesday May 9 at Immanuel Lutheran Church with all day sessions from 9 30 to 4. Luncheon will be served at noon at the parish house. Mrs J L Almond Jr of Roanoke presides. Guests include Mrs B Schuler Shenandoah president of the Virginia Synodical Society and Rev Homer Anderson Lynchburg superintendent of the Virginia Synod. The Preston Parent-Teacher Association closed its year with a 3 pm meeting in the school auditorium led by President Mrs J D Young. Third grade pupils delivered the devotional, treasurer C I Cheyney reported a strong year, and nominating chair I N Fuqua announced officers for 1983 84. The session featured a Hansel and Gretel operetta summary and a dramatized Leak in the Dyke performed by Frances Laird and Mary Lou Carrs groups.

The Bluefield Country Club hosted the first ladies day with a blind bogey tournament. A triple tie at net 41 named the blind bogey number, with Mrs. JM. B. Lewis Jr, Mrs. W. Slusher, and Mrs. N. Huffard all at 41. Betty Markle won hostess for the day and a prize golf ball, with Mrs. Huffard taking the out for the prize.
