One Legged Man Found Dead On Brent Mountain Road
In Williamson West Virginia on April 30 AP reports police from Kentucky and West Virginia puzzled by a body found on Brent mountain road with no cane or crutch nearby. Williams Johnson a high school teacher and Joe Paore found the body. Hospital staff said the man appeared dead only a few hours. Authorities from Pike County Kentucky and Mingo County West Virginia worked to identify the victim.
Coal Board Reports Big Rise in Machine Mining
The Bituminous Coal Commission says machine mining of soft coal rose 7 percent from 1935 to 1938 with bituminous loads up from 47,277,224 tons in 1936 to 83,500,000 in 1937. Anthracite mined by machines increased 13.1 percent in the period. Illinois leads in mechanical loading followed by West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Indiana and Wyoming.
