Latest advices indicate no strike this morning and business to proceed normally. A few miners have left the field, but no suspensions or meetings planned. rumors of a broad strike are dismissed as idle.
At Eckman Wednesday a Black man named Tobe Redish was shot and killed by Shea Clark during a craps game over 10 cents. Clark threatened to shoot and fired before fleeing. he remains at large.
Dr and Mrs J W Easley announce the marriage of their daughter Miss Kate Ahler Easley to Mr Charles H Evans. The ceremony will be at the Baptist Church in the city on Tuesday afternoon May 12 at four o clock.
The advertisement asserts that Hood’s Sarsaparilia provides perfect and permanent cures for diseases caused by impure blood. It claims an unrivaled record of cures, achieved after other preparations had failed. The text lists liver ills biliousness jaundice indigestion and sick headache among the ailments addressed.

Santa Rosa California on April 30 celebrated a grand Rose Carnival with eight floral arches spanning streets. Visitors from outside the city numbered in the thousands as fruit and flower exhibits opened at the Athenaeum followed by the coronation of the queen and a reception to her majesty and retinue.
The Ladies' auxiliary of the Y M C A offers a Dime Entertainment tonight at the association rooms. The program includes piano and vocal solos readings and recitations. Ice cream and cake will be served. Proceeds repay indebtedness for parlor furnishings. All are invited.
Grand Rapids Michigan April 30 The Republican Congressional Convention of the Fifth Michigan district opened at the Lincoln Club led by Hon Loomis K Bishop William Alden Smith of Grand Rapids was unanimously renominated for a second term and two delegates were added to the McKinley column at St Louis
