Four staff and five patrons were held at gunpoint while the trio looted the vault. Sheriff Hatfield and Police Chief Fraley led deputies in a chase that followed the car north toward Jackson before losing the trail. Cashier Ingels noted only three thousand remained unfound, and bank president Moch said losses were insured.
A man claiming to be John Krital, 30, of Cleveland, was detained near Albany by sheriff’s deputies while pursuing three bank robbers who held up the First National Bank at Gallipolis. The gunmen stole between 18 000 and 20 000 dollars and fled in a car. Krital, arrested in an Albany hotel, admitted complicity as two companions reportedly escaped to Nelsonville.
Posters appeared in Mexico City denouncing Josephus Daniels the new American ambassador. A tri motor British Imperial Airways airliner named City of Liverpool crashed near Kesen killing all fifteen aboard. The Cologne to Croydon flight had stopped at Brussels Haeren airfield moments before the tragedy. No Americans were aboard.
Charleston March 28 Auditor Edgar B Sime directing a broad order limits withdrawals by life and annuity companies in West Virginia. Exceptions allow loans to meet policy obligations, and cash surrender values under strict conditions. Industrial insurers may pay surrender values to relief policyholders and families. Interest and installments may be paid on due dates, with other withdrawals curtailed.
Washington March 23 oil industry spokesmen representing 13 producing states major companies and independents urged the federal government to assume control to restore order. A 15 member committee submitted a tentative stabilization program to Secretary Ickes who withheld judgment and noted talks would continue. The group said cooperation between states and producers would not suffice and emergency federal legislation might be needed.
Berlin reports a nationwide boycott plan by the Nazis to shut Jewish business and professional life starting April 1 at 10 am. The 11 point call targets merchants doctors and lawyers and bars some school attendance for Jewish children. The plan, issued from Munich, shows left-wing Nazi leaders pressing the move despite moderate faction fears.
