Federal grant aids Tazewell and Russell farmers in soil protection
U S Department of Agriculture grants 416216 to help farmers in Tazewell and Russell counties reduce erosion and protect Little River watershed. The effort, run through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program, will provide financial educational and technical assistance. Local districts will oversee the grant with input from district chairs and conservation groups.

Alderson man jailed for dog killing after court ruling
Alderson resident Lucky Freddie Donald Martin, 50, received a 90 day sentence in Southern Regional Jail for killing a dog and related felon in possession of a firearm. The Monroe Circuit Court upheld the verdicts from magistrate court and ordered him to start serving the term next week.

Monroe County man pleads guilty to courtroom misconduct
Monroe County man Leonard I. Chandler 23 of Greenville pled guilty to intimidation of a public official during a domestic violence hearing. State to dismiss obstruction and destruction charges with a suspended sentence and three years of probation upon compliance. Sentencing set for May 20.
