Construction on Renaissance Village, a mixed use apartment and retail building in Welch, started in August 2019 on the old Best Furniture site. The top two floors will house 16 one and two bedroom apartments with first floor commercial space. July is targeted for opening as McDowell County Schools wrestle with 24 teaching vacancies and housing shortages.

Virginia reports second coronavirus case in Fairfax city
Officials in Virginia say a second presumptive positive coronavirus case is a City of Fairfax resident in their 80s who traveled on a Nile River cruise. The patient developed respiratory symptoms on February 28 and was hospitalized Thursday in stable condition.
