Senate passes Baliles gasoline tax proposal

In Richmond the Senate approved Gov. Baliles plan to raise 47.5 million annually for highway construction. The 33-6 vote backed Sen. Piedmont president weighs Mercer air service soon

Jobless rate jumps to 7.3 percent in February

The U S civilian unemployment rate rose 0.6 percentage points to 7.3 percent in February, the largest monthly gain in nearly six years.
