Delegate recasts medical marijuana tale to defeat tougher drug bill
West Virginia Delegate Bill Flanigan described his chemotherapy aided by medical marijuana to argue against HB 4576 which would raise the maximum prison term for drug importers from five to fifteen years. He spoke on the House floor as the bill was tabled 59 to 40 and announced he will not seek re election due to his cancer.

He also served as WVU economic development director and senior adviser to the president.

West Virginia boy links Kentucky murder suspect to attempted luring
A West Virginia boy identified Timothy Madden of Scottsville Kentucky as the man who tried to lure him and another boy into an RV at a Mason gas station on Oct 9. The affidavit ties Madden to the disappearance and death of 7-year-old Gabriella Doolin in Scottsville. Madden faces murder kidnapping first degree rape and sodomy charges and has pleaded not guilty.

Firefighters suspended for using wrong car to save infant
Two Stafford County volunteers were suspended after transporting an 18 month old girl to a hospital in a fire engine rather than waiting for a medic. Captain James Kelley of the Almouth Volunteer Fire Department said the infant had a seizure on February 27 and needed urgent hospital care.
McDowell County Indictments Hit Dozen Offenders
McDowell County grand jury returned a large slate of indictments in February. Named defendants include Kevin D. Bradley of Falls Mills for felony insurance fraud, Jessica L. Justice for the same charge, Jonathan Burcette of Welch for burglary and larceny related felonies, and numerous others from Welch, Gary, Jolo, and nearby towns facing charges from grand larceny to arson, drug offenses, sex offender registration violations, and violent crimes. Prosecuting Attorney Ed Kornish announced the results.
