NORTHFORK The Order of Eastern Star Chapter No. 99 met at the Masonic Hall with Jessie Keesee and Roy Keesee presiding. The chapter planned a Heart Fund donation, distributed phone book covers for sale, and reviewed Rainbow of Girls work. The next meeting is set for Friday March 6.
Mrs. Albert Tally, 77, was honored with a surprise birthday dinner last Monday hosted by her daughters Mrs. L. J. Crusenberry and Mrs. Dorothy Craft, and Mrs. Boardwine in Bristol. The gathering included local residents and relatives.
Bluefield Chapter No. 102 of the Eastern Star held its regular meeting in the Masonic Hall Bluefield Virginia presided by Mr and Mrs J Russell Hearn. Officers for 1959 60 were named including Elizabeth Spurgeon as worthy matron Sam Wells as worthy patron and Della Dawson as associate matron with a March 14 installation at 8 pm.
The Tazewell Study Club hosted a February meeting at Miss Sammy Scott’s home. Mrs. Elmer Kiser led a program titled Only In Tazewell, describing local life customs and the introduction of preservation efforts for Tazewell’s way of life.
Mrs. Kiser urged members to supply material from pioneer families for the yearbook. Miss Marie McNulty displayed ceramics made from native materials. Members suggested topics for next year’s book and voted to sponsor a high school girl to attend Girls State in Blacksburg next summer.
Mrs Mamie Barger of Bluefield announces the engagement of Joanne Griffith to John Boyce Styron of Stacy North Carolina. Miss Griffith is the daughter of M W Griffith of Centerbury Ohio and Mr Styron is son of Mr and Mrs John K Styron. A June wedding is planned.
Miss Mary Winter presents thumbnail sketches of four major American poets at First Baptist Church at 6 45 p m Bluefield Moose chapter meetings and Moosehaven initiation led by Mrs Edna Gibson Thursday features Bluefield Garden Club guest speaker W B Martin a High School Teens meeting a metal etch class at the Y and North Tazewell PTA film night Lydia Boggs society plans nominating committee for April officer election Saturday morning Lydia Boggs society CAR hosts election planning at 216 Oakhurst Avenue for nominating committee and April officers.
Weekend guests included Mr and Mrs John Herndon and Gibson Bozell of Bluefield. Mrs Nettie Holmes learns of her son in law Frank Massie's death in Washington DC. Mrs Gussie Fry blessed with hospital care after a February hip injury. Mr and Mrs Stuart Moore travel to Bluefield. Also updates on Mrs Albert Talley and Barbara visiting Bristol Tennessee and Crusenberry family. Charlie Davis recovering. Harry Walters visiting Abingdon.
Keystone residents visit relatives in Mullens and Bluefield as several travelers report trips to Portsmouth Ohio, Ashland and Huntington. At Bluefield Sanitarium Mrs. Ensminger and Mrs. Beavers receive care while others arrange hospital transfers and family visits.
Mr and Mrs Charles R Oliver Sr of Reidsville North Carolina travel to Bluefield for the funeral of Mrs Dorothy Bragg with attendees including family and friends from the region.
Many cottons are machine washable and dryable in a regular dryer without ironing. Remove garments from the dryer immediately after the cycle ends and you can simply hand-press them.
Mrs. Joe Romaixo presided as Cumberland Heights School PTA held Founders Day observances with a devotional by Mrs. Glenn Pritchard and finances report by Mrs. Emmitt Williams. Members honored past officers, thanked teachers for Best Writing Forward, and noted PTA accomplishments including new lounge furniture and classroom supplies. A bake sale is planned for March 28 and April 13 will mark Entertainment Week.
McComas personal notes report visitors from Washington D C Roanoke and Christiansburg. Families mentioned include Julian Dunford and son Loyd Dunford Mrs Cora Eller and Loyd visiting Christiansburg son family and Mrs Hazel McMillion from Hinton visiting her mother Mrs W A Eller. Buddy Perkins and family moved away. Other relatives visited Rural Retreat and Bluefield areas.
Mr and Mrs W H McGee returned home Monday from a Florida vacation. McGee attended the Crushed Stone Convention in Miami. They visited Silver Springs Avon Park and Miami relatives then stayed a night with Billy McGee in Kingsport Tennessee. Alice Jones and granddaughter Cassie Dalton visited family in Kingsport. Merlin Pruett C C Beavers Jr and others were guests of Ellis Tipton in Kingsport.
Mrs Wade Houck of Itmann received a surprise birthday party at her home with many relatives and friends in attendance including Wade, Jud ith Ann and Larry, Johnny and Paul Roy, Gatha Faye, Brenda Gail, Lena and Lanny Houck, Emmalea Reed, Martha Semonco, and numerous Houck family members. She received many lovely gifts.
Miss Dorothy Cole of Baltimore Maryland to wed Bud Ray in early June. Engagement announced by Mr and Mrs Ira Ray of Cedar Bluff Virginia and the couple plans a summer ceremony.
