West Virginia top obesity ranking sparks health debate

West Virginia ranks as the fourth most obese state with 31.3 percent of adults obese and 38 percent overweight, according to a joint TFAH RWJF report. State officials cite high costs, access issues, and policy gaps as factors and note childhood obesity also remains high at 18.9 percent.

McDowell shooting suspect arraigned in Welch

Akeem Rashed Dickerson, 18, of Northfork is charged with first degree murder in the shooting death of Willie Adam Thompson 35. No bond was set as he was arraigned in McDowell County with Trooper M A Shrewbury noting the case arose from an argument over a $25 debt. Thompson was found in Northfork Hollow outside his home and died at the scene. Dickerson was held without bond at the McDowell County Jail before a Tuesday transport back to Welch.
