High Court Rules Parolee Entitled to Hearing Before Revocation
The Supreme Court ruled unanimously that a parolee must have a hearing with the right to present and question witnesses before parole can be revoked for violation. An independent officer should determine reasonable grounds after arrest, followed by notice and a hearing to assess contested facts. The decision, authored by Chief Justice Burger, left lawyer representation to state codes.
