Solons Quiet Draft Expires At Midnight

Two flag pole painters earned 75 dollars for painting 65 foot poles at Mercer County Courthouse and Memorial Building in Princeton. The work took about ten minutes to climb and 30 minutes to descend. A 115 dollar check was issued, including 40 dollars for Mercer Airport pole work. The painters travel the country for hazardous work as Mercer's poles had not been painted in two years. The draft will halt at midnight Wednesday unless Congress acts, with leaders saying action by then is unlikely. A provision to call men with expiring deferments requires presidential authorization, and a compromise on withdrawal timelines remains unsettled.
