Bluefield considers quiet zone to curb train noise
Bluefield Virginia moves to resume a quiet zone ordinance to limit horn use at four crossings Furnace Depot Montrose and Thistle as FRA rules prompt potential grandfathered status. About 50 trains pass daily with around 200 hours of whistle sounds feared unless zones qualify for exemptions. FRA says communities may set silent zones while ensuring crossing safety.
