In New York the stock market recovered late, lifting the Dow after a session that started negative on a weak dollar and brisk economic news. A slide in the bond market spurred selling, then renewed buying helped erase earlier losses as the 30 year Treasury yield rose to 7.51 percent on late action.
Washington AP reports May new home sales rose 4.2 percent to a seasonally adjusted 738,000 annual rate, the highest since last December, as consumer confidence and employment optimism offset higher 30 year mortgage costs. Analysts expect 1994 peak may be near and taper thereafter while remaining strong. Regional gains occurred in the South, Northeast and West.
The plan limits all vehicles over 35 feet to travel 623 Burkes Garden Road during 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. to protect school buses during these hours.
