An intoxicated hijacker armed with a knife seized an Eastern Airlines Boeing 727 off Daytona Beach as it flew from Baltimore to Miami. The aircraft with 97 passengers and 7 crew diverted to Havana, where it landed at Jose Marti airport one hour after turning toward Cuba. The hijacker remained in Cuba.
President Nixon will depart July 23 for a round the world trip including the Apollo 11 lunar splashdown at sea and a five nation tour of Southeast Asia. He will travel to Romania behind the Iron Curtain in August becoming the first U.S. chief executive to cross the barrier since the Cold War began.
