Stocks fall after Fed cuts rate less than hoped
The Fed trimmed short term rates by 0.25 point, half of what markets sought, marking the sixth cut this year. The Dow fell 37.64 to 10,434.84 while the Nasdaq rose 10.12 to 2,074.74 and the S&P 500 slipped 5.69 to 1,211.07 as investors awaited clearer signs of a sustained recovery amid ongoing profit warnings and weak retail and banking sectors. CVS tumbled 7.59 to 36.51 after warning earnings would miss expectations for the quarter and year.
