Clay County bars employees from leading school prayers
Clay County school board voted unanimously to ban teachers and staff from leading prayers at school events while allowing student prayer before meals and tests. Superintendent Jer Linkinegger cited legal advice and the Supreme Court ruling banning school sponsored prayers. The board will not sponsor or direct prayer, but will not discourage students who wish to pray. Local minister and area residents urged action aligned with faith, while the ACLU had warned of potential legal challenges.
