Virginia Police Net Over 100000 Worth Of Drugs

Virginia state police and Russell County deputies raided a Lebanon area home and seized drugs with a street value over 100000. John Deno De Simone, 30, of Los Angeles, faces felony charges for possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and marijuana, plus a misdemeanor count of breaking arrest. De Simone reportedly told investigators he arrived three weeks ago with the drugs and had served time in California on similar charges. He was held on 20000 bond and arraignment was set before Judge T J Bondurant.

Virginia Side Man Injured In Accident

Gregory Keith Scarberry, 26, of Bluefield Virginia, drove a 1982 Ford Bronco on Route 52 near Nemours when the vehicle went over a bridge and into Nemours Lake. He suffered slight injuries, was not charged, and a Lambert's Garage wrecker recovered the vehicle. Trooper W A Dean investigated.

Eighty six West Virginia educators will attend the National Education Association convention in Philadelphia starting Thursday. WVEA President Lowell Johnson says delegates will vote on NEA policy issues including candidates for the 1984 U S presidential race. Court Upheld McDowell Countian Murder Arson Robbery Convictions

The West Virginia Supreme Court affirmed a McDowell County man's murder arson and robbery convictions but ordered resentencing for the murder alone. Williams received life without parole for murder, but arson and robbery were deemed lesser offenses and must be set aside, with the case returning to circuit court for murder-only sentencing. Floyd Franklin was acquitted on murder and arson but convicted of robbery and given 40 years.

Welch Robbery Trial Opens In McDowell Court

Bernard Wallace faces trial for an attempted robbery at De skins Supermarket on December 21 1982 in Welch. Jurors hear Prosecution say Wallace wore a ski mask and framed by evidence from witness Greg Roop police and lab techs. The case likely goes to the jury later today.

Union Leader Salary and Dues Report for 1982

The Daily Mail reports Church received 59695 in salary and 26112 in expenses while Trumka, who beat Church in the union election, earned 1807 for nine days. The UMW collected 16.2 million in dues in 1982, up from 1981, with 72 day strike affecting 1981 and higher coalfield unemployment helping 1982. Members pay 32.10 monthly in dues, laid off workers 1.25 monthly to stay insured.
