Detroit June 27 Dr George A Fritch a noted local physician faces a second trial for the murder of Mabel Millman whose dismembered body was found in Ecorse Creek near Detroit after she disappeared from Ann Arbor home The first trial ended in conviction but the state supreme court reversed it and granted a new trial The key witness a chauffeur who aided in disposing of the remains vanished prompting renewed search by prosecutors.
Seven striking miners petitioned for an injunction against coal company guards at Paint Creek where a strike roils. With Circuit Judge S C Burdette absent from Charleston the application was not heard today. The miners call the guards a public nuisance.

At the Baltimore Democratic convention on June 27 28 William J Bryan led a progressive push by a two thirds vote against nominating any candidate under obligations to J Pierpont Morgan Thomas F Ryan August Belmont or other privilege seeking interests The move sparked boos and cheers as delegates argued over state rights and the prospect of withdrawing Ryan and Belmont The convention continued with nominations as a ballot loomed into the early hours of morning
