Veteran faces Medicare gaps as costs mount for prescriptions
Hartman, an Army nurse from Korea and Desert Storm, relies on Tricare after Medicare gaps left him paying high drug costs. He spends about 100 dollars monthly out of pocket, with potential 800 dollars if not for Tricare. He travels to University of Virginia Medical Center quarterly, adding gas and motel expenses. A Mercer County teacher for 26 years, he now substitutes 90 days yearly to stay afloat while facing more hospital stays that prevent work. He remains hopeful for policy changes but fears benefits may shrink. Contact Samantha Perry at sperry bottonline.com.
