Ed Kade operator of the tavern and former county jailor was arrested for the shooting. Virginia Morris, a tavern employee, claimed to have been in bed when the fight began and was injured trying to intervene. Keeney’s father Cleve Keeney is a Virginian Railway conductor.
The National Labor Relations Board charges Ford with interfering with UAW organizing at the Rouge plant in Dearborn. The complaint lists 14 assaulted workers, threats and intimidation, and discharge linked to union activity. A hearing is set for July 6 at the federal building in Detroit.
Mary Pickford wed Charles Buddy Rogers in a private garden ceremony in Hollywood with 17 relatives. The Congregational minister officiated, no obey vow, Pickford age 43 and Rogers 34, a brief rite after 3 pm amid police-guarded street activity.

In Sutton West Virginia a demonstration of a so called non explosive cleaning liquid injures a 10 year old boy and burns the adult worker. Frank Amos Jr. suffers serious burns after his clothing catches fire when a match is held near the liquid. William Duffield Jr. says the shop’s workers used the solution and a lighter to show a friend.
R E Bowie of Wheeling was elected president of the West Virginia Bankers Association and urged full cooperation to weather government activity and labor unrest. The group called for abolishing postal savings, a balanced federal budget, and withdrawal of emergency lending by the federal government.
Democratic senators and congressmen came back from a Roosevelt picnic in Maryland reporting more about a softball game than any real legislative prospects. House leaders moved in whenever discussions touched on politics, and there was no adjournment talk or inside chatter. Senator McCarran said the court reorganization bill was not discussed amid the lighthearted mood.
Population: Charles Smith and Drown admit involvement in the beating death of James Garland 85-year-old Negro proprietor of Fillie Confectionary Bland Street. Brown and Smith claim Smith struck first with an iron rod, Brown says he joined after, as they discussed a life policy payout with a $200 benefit. Garland found dead Tuesday noon at Cumberland Heights.
In Charleston West Virginia on June 26 a supreme court order unlocked the Missionary Baptist church doors after a May 10 padlock. The Rev Otis E Caldwell faced ouster claims and held services on the steps during the dispute. The court noted the order does not decide the merits of the Kanawha circuit court case.
Coroner B C Robinson said 13 year old Sarah Urschel died from a self inflicted bullet wound found by her father Rudolph Urschel in her brother's rifle. He said she had been warned about staying out late and the reading near the body included a message Youre wont cause any more.
