A 11 year old boy Caudill Dennis was sentenced to fifteen years in the Virginia state penitentiary for second degree murder in the killing of 15 year old Otey Lafon at Pearisburg Giles County. The verdict followed a packed courtroom as defense and prosecution presented witnesses including the Lafon brothers who testified Dennis fired a shotgun at Otey and forced entry into the Lafon home. A small tornado struck the Salt Creek oil field near Midwest Wyoming injuring two workers as it wrecked about 100 rigs and destroyed two gas plants.
