On December 28 1972 at about 6 a.m. Mary Elizabeth Osborne 66 was found dead face down in a pool of blood in a basement Sunday School room of the First Church of God at 118 South Street Bluefield. The Rev Neville Mozingo found the body after being called by a 16 year old boy. Osborne a devoted wife mother homemaker and church member had just left choir practice the night before. Her husband John Henry Osborne had died in 1971 leaving a standing mystery that has troubled family and police for almost 22 years. The family recalls she was loved by all and that the church has never been the same. Continued investigation has yielded little new information.
