Hunger Strike Ends at West Virginia Prison After Tour Promise
Four inmates at the state penitentiary ended a 16 day hunger strike after being promised a tour of the prison with the Legislature's Joint Committee on Public Institutions. Warden Donald Bordenkircher said the protest centered on North Hall conditions and noted the need for federal minimum standards funding estimated at 20 to 30 million dollars.

Welfare cuts announced in West Virginia
Welfare Commissioner Leon Ginsberg said letters next week will notify recipients of monthly benefit reductions following a $1 million cut in the next fiscal year's budget. Changes target specific clients, with some families losing 40 to 24 dollars monthly, effective Aug. 1 and Sept., as AFDC grants top at 254 dollars. Some may qualify for extra food stamp aid. Governor Rockefeller had urged 18.3 million, but Legislature approved 17.2 million.
