Charleston won the next West Virginia Christian Endeavor convention, set for the same dates as this year's gathering. Delegates voted Charleston as host, with plans, prayers, and district leaders praising Mittelstaff and Miss Jackson as key speakers.
At the twenty seventh annual West Virginia Christian Endeavor Union convention the resolutions committee urged the U S government to seek an international conference on arms reduction while keeping national safety. The motion was adopted unanimously. Five young Endeavorers pledged to lifelong service to the Master. The life recruits listed include Emory Linkous.
In Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, Joseph A. Fryer, 35, died from burns after a private still in his cellar exploded Wednesday. Fryer had been operating the still when a heavy blast showered him with burning whiskey. his wife reported the incident when questioned.
Timothy D. Murphy and nine associates were charged by two indictments returned by a federal grand jury before Judge Landis. The cases allege theft conspiracy and robbery connected to the Dearborn station $250000 mail heist. Edward Gieran confessed. Cosmano Gutenberg Volanti Teter Hecker and three others named. three unnamed suspects remain at large.
Dublin officials report Eamonn De Valera was taken to Portobello barracks during a raid on Wednesday night and detained until 2 PM Thursday before being released. The Dail Eireann official could not explain the motive for the release and said the situation remains unchanged.

Denver June 24 Both candidates John J Lewis and Samuel Gompers voiced equal confidence they would win the presidency of the American Federation of Labor at tomorrow's vote. Supporters claimed gains to elect the mine workers' chief by a several thousand majority while Gompers backers predicted an easy victory. A miners delegation split threatened to deny Lewis 1596 votes as Frank Farrington said neither Howat nor Harlan would vote for Lewis.
Sleeping sickness caused the death today of John H. Hinkle a fifty four year old retired merchant of Philadelphia. He was well known in fraternal circles.
